This is a fantastic and very valuable site. I live in Sweden, but grew up in Marlton street, Greenwich.
I was extremely interested to see the 1890's pic of the Mitre as a relative-by-marriage was the licensed victualler at the time (George Hallam). Where can I obtain a copy of the original photo?
Does anyone have any information on the remodelling? Judging by the modern pics, it looks as if the top floor was removed.
Having just found your website, I was very pleased to see the photographs of Creed Place, where my great grand parents once lived, somewhat before 1920 though, Christchurch where they were married and "the New Public Baths?". It helped me to visualize their home and surroundings. Does anyone know where the "older public baths" may have been?
I have added some hopefully useful information to each of the Company entries relating to both their precise location and their function. I am unclear as to where Johnson & Phillips and J. Stone & Co. had premises on the Peninsula..
Suggested basis for text for new home page. Please play with it! – Rib
Gasworks to Dome is a collection of oral history and photographs, all about East Greenwich and the Greenwich peninsula within living memory.
- Add copy-write statement.
- What is the appropriate license? Creative common?
- Show author on image & audio pages.
- Good to have map.
- Create "not company" categories etc. + "Not known".
I was born in Manchester in 1944 & moved to Marlton Street in 1949. My spouse, Loraine ( nee Lockwood ) was born in 1948 at St Alpheges Hospital. She lived in Marlton Street, later moving to Keplar House ( near Dyson House ) off Woolwich Road. Her Grandparents, owned the Mitre Pub during the War and moved from it after the end of the War.
Just added a tag cloud so you can easily see which are the most popular categories on the site.
Ideas for the future
RUNNING ORDER
1. Context from Andy /Isabelle.
2. History of the project: type of website project/structure. (chaired by Tom)
3. How content was produced.
4. The future (How to get involved - help pages contact IP)
Tom..
For some reason tonight I can log in and am reported as being logged in, can visit Audio.. and still be shown as logged in.. but on selecting the Peggy Dibble interview, the status shows 'Login' again. I therefore can't currently edit that page and post the completed transcript for this interview.
- Attach more audio extracts to images as this really brings the website alive.
- Automatically add the name of the person speaking to all Audio extracts "This is an extract from/ interview with ------ "
A useful list of the direct URL's for audio streams on the site as of Sept 4th 2006.

Have we got permission to use Jim Kebbell's interview?
Here are notes from the meeting last week to plan out the final period of workshop activity for the project, running up to a public launch event for the website.
Present: Andy (IP), Tom, Rib, Dave, Sheila, Patricia
We're all getting together at IP on Monday 24th July at 7.30 to plan our final six weeks or so of formalised sessions, leading to the site being launched onto an unsuspecting world. This session REPLACES our usual Wednesday session, which would have taken place on the 26th but now will not. We need everyone on the 24th! So do come. - Rib.

Aims
The aims were agreed to be those that had been distributed.
MARY MILLS, local historian extraordinaire, will be coming to a Gasworks to Dome session at 7.30 on TUESDAY 9TH MAY. This session will replace our normal session of 10th May. We will be recording Mary as she talks about the old photos we have, and she will also be introducing to us many old photos which she will be allowing us to use.

Gasworks to Dome is a multi-media project exploring the past and present of the people of the Greenwich Peninsula from the 1920's to the present day.
We have been creating a web site that aims to show how the area has changed over the years. The site consists of a searchable archive of old and new photographs, along with recordings of interviews with local residents.
Over the next 4 weeks we hope to -
*Make a summary of each interveiw from audio - so we know what we've got
*Do 4 more interviews
*Transfer those interviews which we have only on minidisk to CD (Rib)
