Audio extract
A fairly short sound extract, usually a discrete element from a long interview.
Categories & Tags
Categories are ways of grouping together various images/audio extracts. There are 5 categories: Years, Landmarks, Subjects, Comapanies and Streets. Tags are terms used within the categories, such as 'Boord Street' or '1980s'.
Audio Streaming
Functionality where audio files can be started in the middle without waiting for the whole file to download. This is especially important for this site as many of the interviews are over an hour long a take up a large amount of space.
Quicktime & Realplayer
Software to allow audio clips to be played.
Project note
Notes made by those connected to the project, usually about recent developments or plans for the site
Recent
Images or audio which have been recently uploaded onto the site.
Related images & audio extracts
Photos or sound extracts which have some sort of connection to the photo or sound extract being viewed or listened to.
